I just got back from the Portland show and I am SOOOOOO psyched!!! They put on one of the best shows I have ever seen! Oh, and in Portland, it was Free Bird, not Stairway to Heaven, that was the song o' choice that made the girls go runnin for the loo -back in the day ;)
This concert was one of the best birthday presents Ive ever received. I can't wait until they come back. 3 Encores pretty much says it all... and they even hung around after the show to BS with everyone.
Wow.... just... WOW.

Re: Portland Concert
Wed, May 25, 2005 - 2:55 AMIt was Freebird in SF too... I think there may have been some after concert confusion/delusion from the other posting here.
After discussing further with two other friends that were there they both said that it certainly was Freebird...
p.s.- Ronan had a little chuckle the second night in SF when, in fact, Freebird was screamed from the audience as a request. hehehehe
Glad to hear the concert was great up there as well!!! ;-)

Re: Portland Concert
Wed, May 25, 2005 - 10:10 PMhe said the san fran crowd was so crazy. He said he thought it was hilarious when he mentioned that they were going to play a really sad, depressing, melancholy song and then the whole crowd went wild :D He said that wasnt quite the reaction he expected. Ronan's so great.
Im half tempted to drive up to Seattle tomorrow and see it all over again :) -

Re: Portland Concert
Thu, May 26, 2005 - 2:11 AMYeah, there were a few shout out requests for Freebird... a few people around me did it and I'm sure in the excitement and hilarity of the moment there were other requests shouted as well.
It all still proved for great nights both nights in SF except for one thing I noticed on the second night, if you were there did you notice the same RedTux..... (?)
....When they played "Further" it seemed like the crowd just stood there as if not even knowing the song at all. Every time I have seen VNV both here in CA and many times in FL, the crowd went NUTS for "Further". I think the two show idea had its ups and downs. One of the 'ups' was certainly having the opportunity to hear such a varied selection of songs. Judging from the size of the crowd on the second night I think a lot people could not make both shows and the ones that did may have just been exhausted. Who knows... just an observation.
I did talk to a friend of mine in FL and she said that at the first show of the US tour in Fort Lauderdale 'Beloved' was not played. Someone shouted out the song title and Ronan's response was 'Nahh, I'm sick of that song' Needless to say my friend was a little upset since that was the first time she was able to see them and 'Beloved' is her favorite song.
Though at the end of it all the shows were amazing as usual and the people attending were equally amazing! Without sounding cheesy or anything, VNV fans are just THAT cool! hehehe
take care everyone.... enjoy the music!!! -

You know it's funny... I had to pull up the bootleg from their 2001 SF concert to know what song you were talking about... I'm a very new fan (1 year). I do recall the crowd being quiet for this song. I almost want to think they were more introspective, but it's hard for me to judge, I was up aginast the rail.... Remember the person with the Cane night two? That was my friend. She was a trooper, her knee was really fooked but she made it none the less and had a blast despite the pain. -

Letter from Ronan & Mark of VNV Nation re: Vancouver Show
Due to an unexpected illness we have, reluctantly, had to cancel our Vancouver show. Mark and I would like to say how very sorry we are about this. We know that this news will upset people who have been looking forward to the show but we want to assure all those who were coming to the show that we would never consider anything like this unless the circumstances were such that we had no other option. While we cannot give specifics, an important member of the crew requires medical attention at a hospital and it would not be possible to leave him here while this happens. Either another member of crew or the tour manager would have to stay behind with him but the production would suffer considerably to the point that it would not be possible to do a show. We have debated all day about options and come to the decision that the only option would be to reschedule the Vancouver show to the soonest possible date available.
Again, Mark and I want to express how sorry we are that this unforeseen situation has resulted in the Vancouver date being cancelled.
Before the rumor mill starts, we want to assure you that this does not and will not affect any other shows.
For those people who purchased tickets to Vancouver we would like to extend the following offer: Come to the Seattle show, show proof of purchase for the Vancouver show and Photo ID to Jim at the merchandise booth and we will give you a free T-shirt or CD of Matter and Form for your troubles.
Thank you all for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson
